Candlelight Vigils
Brush Country CASA held several Candlelight Vigils in observation of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. This is the first time we have been able to host a public event since the start of the pandemic which added to the significance for CASA and their supporters. The first event was held on Tuesday, April 12th at 6pm at the Kleberg County Courthouse in Kingsville, Texas. We heard from stakeholders including the County Judge, Distinct Attorney, Superintendent of Schools, and other key stakeholders regarding the plight of child abuse and neglect in our community. The second event was held on Tuesday, April 19th at 6pm at the Jim Wells County Courthouse in Alice, Texas. CASA was concerned about attendance to this event due to inclement weather; however, we were presently surprised to see that we had a fantastic turnout. Our final Candlelight Vigil was held on Tuesday, April 26th at 6:00 pm at the Brooks County Courthouse in Falfurrias, Texas. Inclement weather proved to be an issue during this event as well, but luckily Judge Ramos and his office were accommodating and allowed us to host the event indoors in the courtroom. The surroundings were heightened by a gorgeous backdrop which was graciously contributed by Gloria Garcia, who works in Judge Ramos’ office. We were pleasantly surprised and grateful for the addition.
Thank you to all of the speakers and those in attendance for contributing to the success of our Candlelight Vigils.
